China's Four Great Pottery
"Red as dates, thin as paper, bright as mirror, and resonant as chime stone" — Rongchang pottery originated in the Han Dynasty and flourished during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Alongside Yixing purple clay, Jianshui pottery, and Qinzhou pottery, it is honored as one of China's Four Great Pottery traditions. Its production involves over 20 meticulous steps, with wood-fired kiln techniques as the essence. The natural "kiln transformation" occurs at temperatures up to 1200°C, requiring seven days and eight nights of firing to create each masterpiece.

What material is your pottery made of?
Our pottery is made from Rongchang Clay, one of China's Four Great Pottery Traditions. Wood-fired teaware is handcrafted by national intangible cultural heritage inheritors, with a unique seal stamped on the bottom.
Why do some pottery pieces have uneven colors or small black spots inside/on the base?
Rongchang Clay contains natural minerals. Wood-fired pieces using pine and cypress develop fire marks and natural ash glaze during firing—a signature of premium wood-fired ceramics.
What is natural ash glaze?
Ash glaze forms when iron-rich red clay fuses with high-temperature wood ash during firing. The size, distribution, and color depth of ash spots vary naturally. Unlike conventional kilns, wood-fired pottery is directly exposed to flames and ash.
How to care for your teapot
- Rinse thoroughly with water to remove dust.
- Separate the lid and body. Place in a clean, oil-free pot with purified water (tap water not recommended). Simmer over low heat for 30 minutes after boiling. Cool naturally. Purpose: Thermal expansion releases clay odors.
- Soak the cooled teapot in purified water for half to one day. Purpose: Neutralizes residual kiln heat.
- Optional: Add tea leaves during simmering if dedicated to one tea type. Otherwise, season through regular use.
Tip: Always rinse after use. Air-dry the lid and body separately. Polish the surface with a tea towel.
